Albany is a city in and the county seat of Dougherty County, Georgia, United States, in the southwestern part of the state.[4] It is the principal city of the Albany, Georgia metropolitan area. The population was 76,939 at the 2000 census and had dropped to 75,616 according to a 2009 estimate, making it the ninth largest city in the state.[5]
